Large Visual Barrier Fencing for Hunter Valley Operations
Delivering a high-quality visual barrier to ensure site privacy while enhancing brand visibility for Hunter Valley Operations.
The Challenge
Frank’s Fencing was approached by Hunter Valley Operations in September 2023 to provide a visual barrier solution along Lemington Road as part of Glencore Coal Assets Australia’s mining expansion. The three-metre tall chainmesh fence with Banna mesh was designed not only to screen the site effectively but also to promote the client’s brand by featuring their logo and values along the 1600-metre stretch. The visual barrier was an essential part of the approval process for continued operations, emphasising both practicality and brand visibility.
Our Solution
Our expertise in designing durable, wind-resistant fencing played a key role in delivering a successful outcome. From initial planning to project completion, we managed every detail to ensure the highest standards. The project began with ground disturbance management and underground service location to identify and mitigate potential risks. The chainmesh fence, paired with Banna mesh, was specifically engineered to withstand maximum wind loads, ensuring both safety and durability over time.
We worked in close collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including Hunter Valley Operations, the local council and various regulatory bodies, ensuring every requirement was met. This close cooperation allowed us to navigate the complexities of a large-scale mining expansion project with efficiency and precision and our proactive approach helped prevent delays and challenges before they could arise.
Our experience in both mining and council-related projects enabled us to address challenges that might otherwise have delayed construction. By aligning our processes with the needs of each stakeholder, we streamlined approvals and maintained open communication throughout the project’s duration.
The Outcome
The visual barrier met all objectives, providing the required screening for the expansion while maintaining a visually appealing appearance at the entrance of the mine. The fence was completed in January 2024, on time and within budget and was praised for its quality and the aesthetic enhancement it brought to the site. This successful project has paved the way for further collaboration with Glencore, with similar work already underway for Mangoola Coal.
The project also demonstrated our capability to combine functional requirements with branding needs, offering a solution that effectively managed visibility concerns while also promoting the client’s image. The visually appealing fence, featuring Glencore’s logo and values, serves as a prominent feature at the mine’s entrance, showcasing our commitment to delivering solutions that are not only practical but also contribute positively to our clients’ brand presence.
